This is primarily more about logical sense on the side of the government, and less about conspiracy Theory.
Let’s say that there were signs of life on Mars. “And I don’t mean micro organisms.” Let’s say that NASA has actually found evidence of an enchant civilization. And note I didn’t say “alien civilization” either. But that’s Theory for another time. Now from a governments stand point, what do you think would happen if word got out that there was indication of sentient life on Mars, be it long since dead. I don’t like taking the side of the government, “but really” we as a society are still not ready to know things like this. And for good reason. The government may like having some control over us, but we never think for one min that we like/need that control.
Sake of argument; Pyramids are found on Mars. And not just pyramids, temples, even cities. All in ruin but a still an undeniable signs of intelligence other than our own. Now what happens here back on earth when a discovery like that is made. You would like think that we have progressed enough to accept information like this on a global scale. However when it really comes down to it. Too many of us are still going to panic, too many of us are going to punish none believers, and too many of us are going to kill our selves because they think there spirits are going to be carried off to that temple on the red planet.
I believe that our evolution is taking us down the right path to a day where we can know things like this. But we are also still on enough of an edge that (should such facts exist) would unravel our way of life. I think our way of life is pretty good, and we definitely take it for granted. A lot of us think big brother is out to get each of us. And I really wonder if those people are thinking about the grand reproductions we’ll suffer if something like that get’s out.
I hope I’m making you think a little and I’de love to hear your thoughts.

First of all, the following sort of touches on what you've said here.
ReplyDeletehttp://qntm.org/?retrospective
Individuals could handle the news of life on Mars, but you're right. On a whole, the information would be taken poorly by the general population. As has been my theory for a while, it would take a major conflict/threat from a source of life elsewhere to unite people out of their collective ignorance and bickering.
Secondly, humanity on an individual level, or in small groups can be intelligent, however the more people you add to the group, the less intelligent it gets until you wind up with mob mentality.
Thirdly, where do you keep your "Sack of argument"? If it's where I think it is, I don't want to hear your rebuttal. :P
Fourthly, you think people will start having babies once they find out there is life on Mars? Please explain!
